Clay Decoration

These bottles take a little time but are worth it!Â
First I coat the bottle with white glue. Just the usual school type glue. Then I apply a layer of paper handkerchief. Handkerchiefs usually have three layers. I separate the layers. Usually a covering of 6 layers (2 handkerchiefs) is sufficient. I leave the surface wrinkled as I like this effect. Â
Ensure that the layers are adhered then leave to dry. Â
When dry use air-dry clay for the decoration. Â
Leave to dry then paint with in black acrylic. Â
When dry use metallic paints sparingly.
Don’t throw it away!
There are so many beautiful glass bottles that it seems a shame just to dump them in the recycling bin.
With just a little effort their lives can be extended for years!
The easiest and quickest method is to use acrylic marker pens.
First the bottle should be thoroughly cleaned inside and out. I usually put mine in the dishwasher. Stubborn label residue can be removed with alcohol or nail varnish remover.
Next apply a base coat of acrylic paint.
Leave to dry then draw on your design with the acrylic marker pens. If the bottles are going to be displayed outside they will need to be sprayed with Plastispray.
This is a quick and fun method for celebrations and something the whole family can enjoy.
