A special walk and a special book set in Castel Rigone

Castel Rigone, with it's incredible views over Lago Trasimeno and the surrounding valleys is one of the most beautiful hilltop villages you will find anywhere. The quaint stone houses, narrow streets and majestic towers steeped in history are well known. But this little town is also the starting point for walks into incredible countryside. Take your pick from short easy walks or those which are much longer and challenging.

One of my favourite regular walks takes only about one hour there and back.

Continue just ten minutes along Via del Santuario, past the Santuario on the Preggio road and you will see a woodcutters yard on your left.

Opposite is a pretty country lane filled with bird song. Walk a little way down this lane and you come to three abandoned farm buildings.

I fell in love with this walk and these beautiful stone buildings many years ago. The last one I named 'Just Bear's House' and it became the inspiration for my story book entitled 'Just Bear'.

The book is set around this charismatic little 'house'.

It features 'Just Bear' who sits on our bed at Jumble House.

Jumble House is the loveable little house we bought many years ago as a Casa Vacanza. It is is happy house loved not just by us but by all the other families it cared for in previous years. During the long two years of Covid it wrapped its arms around us and kept us safe and happy and we came to love it dearly .

The story tells of how a little girl, staying at Jumble House goes for a walk in the woods and loses her Teddy Bear. 'Just Bear'.

Just Bear realises he must look after himself until he is found again. He finds the little house and makes his home there helped by all the creatures of the woodland .

Many, many years later the same little girl, now a woman , returns to Castel

Rigone and takes a walk along the lane. Her little boy wanders into 'Just Bear's' house and finds Just Bear.

Reunited and happy they all return to Jumble House.

The book is dedicated to my two daughters and my four grandchildren.

It will soon be available on Amazon and copies are also available from

Jumble House
