I've been experimenting with using slate as a canvas and rather like the effect. I was looking for some table mats and saw these circular and square ones on sale at TEDI.

The first one featured is of Monte Amiata, the dormant volcano between Grosseto and Sienna. It dominates our view over Lago Trasimeno and is especially magical at sunset attracting many photographers to Castel Rigone.

I first used a glue gun to draw the tree and rushes .

Then I sprayed with red, orange and yellow acrylics.

Monte Aminata was obtained using a stencil.

The poppies below were hand painted on slate which had first been sprayed with aerosol acrylics.

I had to overpaint the poppies a couple of times as the aerosol paint appears to seal the surface.

I sprayed each slate tile with varnish to seal.
