My garden is small. Very small. In fact it's not really a garden at all! Just some little steps to the front door and two tiny patches of earth . One at the bottom of the steps and one at the top. Both the result of a few bags of compost I tipped on top of rough tarmac a few years ago.
Facing the NE/E it gets the full force of the cold winds during the winter plus direct hot Italian sun all day starting in spring so not that easy to keep happy! But, I love plants and I love making planters and sculptures for outside.
This morning I had a good sweep outside and trimmed back the ivy and herbs threatening to strangle the less hardy.
I also put out some new planters. These are made from papiermâché and clay.
The cat head is sitting on top of a plantpot filled with soil in which I have rooted a few succulents
The owl head is a football covered in papier-mâché with the top cut away. Filled with compost it is perfect for succulents .
I enjoy making all my planters. This one was particularly satisfying. Moulding papier-mâché to make the turban and features of the face took time but was very rewarding.
I love the wrinkled effect that is so easy to create using paper tissues.
Once painted and sprayed with Plastics, the pieces withstand adverse weather really well.
