Shaving Foam art is usually reserved as a fun activity for young children but it can be used to create great backgrounds for minimalistic wall art and, on a smaller scale unique greeting cards. Plus ... why should this fun process be reserved for children?
The process is similar but the materials are different.
If you are familiar with my website then you will know that I am a coffee artist and paint portraits on canvas and decorative plates using coffee.
Its been quite a stressful week so today I felt like a relaxing activity, not serious art!
I saw an aerosol of shaving foam and thought, 'Why not!!'
So armed with some heavy duty watercolour paper, coffee and saffron, I sprayed lots of lovely foamy shaving foam on a plastic lid .
Such a divine smell!
The rest was child's play!
I sprinkled concentrated coffee on top then some dried saffron. ( The coffee is made by boiling espresso coffee till thick or, you can cheat by using instant coffee again boiled till thick.
I used a fork is used to gently swirl everything together taking care not to over mix.
Wow! Just look at those amazing rich but natural colours! It's like coffee and chocolate ice cream.
Then I placed a sheet of Watercolour paper on top and gently pressed down. Leave for just one minute for a pale result. 2/3 minutes for more vivid colour. The foam is removed with a plastic spatula and then a tissue.
I took two prints.
This one reminded me of a plant with face like curves so I used an acrylic marker to draw the stem and leaves and added some face features.
The paler print I used as a background for a cat minimalistic drawing.
The prints can also be cut up and used for collage or for smaller greeting cards.
If you want really large wall art then either find an enormous plastic lid or use a washable table or worktop .... or floor!
SUCH a good activity when you feel like 'letting go' !
